Logline

Following the sudden death of her father, a grieving teenager spirals down into self-destruction until she reconnects with the bush and her ancestors, spirals up and heals.

Synopsis

Set between the late 1980s and early 2000s in Mount Kembla (Djembla) and Mt. Keira (Djeera) on Wadi Wadi, Dharawal Country, Spirals follows Brigid, a teenager shattered by the loss of her beloved father to cancer. Consumed by grief, she turns to self-destructive behaviours. While packing to leave home, she discovers a dated newspaper article about a local coal mine, an unsettling truth that sends her deeper into despair. Seeking solace, Brigid retreats into the bush, where she begins a journey of transformation. Through connection with her ancestors, dance and the beat of the drum, she awakens to healing, no longer bound by the shadow of grief.

A meditation on loss, transformation, and self-empowerment, Spirals is a deeply personal story about finding light after darkness, offering a poignant exploration of grief and spiritual awakening.
